How to Fill Holes in Wooden Houses before Painting

It would be nice if a wooden house stayed in good shape with only a small amount of house repair maintenance. Only caulk and scrape some, put down some sheeting for paint drips, and apply a few coats of outdoor acrylic paint.
Maintaining your house is more difficult. For a wide variety of reasons, you usually have to fix the wooden facings of the house.
My roughly twenty-five year old home required more than just some new paint. The steel sheeting under my shingles was badly done and permitted rain to repeatedly dampen the overhang board. As the years passed, the wood shrunk and the protective coat of paint flaked.
I researched how to get it done right. I was sure that standard compounds to fill wood would last.
My buddy next door repaired his wooden home many weekends to control rot from termites. These jobs stood the test of time. I wanted know why his repairs did not crack.
Fix Wood Holes with the Auto Repair Filler Called Bondo and Use Power Tools to Finish Sanding

I had used Bondo on a car repair. Bondo kept its shape. Bondo could be sanded. When he mentioned using Bondo, I realized quickly that it would do the job.
With auto filler, the approach is to make repairs in layer after layer with thick layers at the outset and less material thereafter. You can even do fine finishing work, with ordinary kitchen wax paper and wood to shape. When sanding and finishing prior to painting just use one of the many discounted belt sanders for sanding the Bondo and wood smooth.
For those of you who own a wooden deck, you could also apply this auto patcher to fill in gouges in the flooring of wood decks of various types. It comes in handy, when you are preping a redwood deck for staining.
Note the fact that Bondo has a distinctive light reddish color and this will be obvious, when using a transparent water proofing on your wood deck. If you want to preserve a lumber deck that has Bondo, just cover it with an opaque sealant.
Finally you don’t have to look for an auto parts store to get Bondo. It is easy to find Bondo at Lowes or Home Depot. By the way, my painting prep job still looks great after several years.
