My Favorite Chairs

Chairs I Use

Of all the chairs I use, my favorite is without a doubt the one I'm sitting in now as I write this post.  When it comes to office chairs, I think Herman Miller outdid them all with his design of the Aeron Chairs.  Yes, it's a tad bit on the expensive side.  But for me, it is totally worth it!  Because of the amount of time I spend working at my desk both for business and personal reasons, of all the chairs I use, my Aeron gets the most of me.  These chairs are so adjustable for most any frame and size.  I honestly cannot think of one thing I don't like about it.

Coming in a close second of the chairs I use category is a leather chair and ottoman. It is positioned in a room geared for media and of all chairs we have, this one allows me to sort of slump down an chill.  It is not adjustable in any way.  The leather is well worn and even has a tear due to excessive wear.  I'm comfortable hanging my legs over the oversized arms or using the armrests for my arms.  There are no tufts and the design is simple except for a small amount of nailhead trim.  Honestly, it's probably getting close to time for parting with this and replacing it with another.  But I'm not fond of the thought of losing this wonderful of all chairs I've ever owned.

Least Favorite Chairs

I tend toward practicality and that is certainly true with chairs.  Despite this, I've managed to collect quite a few older and antique chairs.  Some are genuine antiques.  Some are family hand-downs that could better be described as early attic.  There's some sentimental value to these chairs that makes it hard to part with them.

Topping my list of least favorite would be antique mahogany formal dining room table chairs.  These belonged to my grandmother, who obtained them in New Orleans from an antique dealer in the French Quarter.  They have an intricate back design that is all wood and an overstuffed seat.  These chairs are just plain uncomfortable to sit in.  They are beautiful to look at though.  Are all dining chairs uncomfortable?

Another least favorite of our chairs is also an antique that is so low to the ground and so tiny in size that it could probably be used as furniture in a large doll house.  I have been told that these were designed so because people were smaller and women's large dresses made getting in and out of bulky chairs difficult.  Hence, you get these little sturdy but dainty looking chairs.  While we're at this, have you ever noticed how often big, huge, strapping men go sit in the most fragile looking chair in the room oftentimes?  Isn't that hilarious about chairs and peoples' gravitation?

Other Chairs

Wing chairs hold a special place for me.  We have 5 of these chairs in our home now even though 2 are stored.  Growing up, I could practically disappear into a wing chair that was grouped in front of an oversized fireplace.  Often I'd go sound to sleep all curled up in one of these chairs.  They seemed huge and so protective at the time.

There are so many kinds of chairs.  They've become such a standard thing in our lives that I don't give much thought to chairs unless I force myself to go there.  Just look around your home and travels for a day and start counting all the different types of chairs you see.  We have chairs made with cane.  Folding chairs that are both metal and wood.  Plastic chairs.  Teak chairs poolside.  Chairs that recline.  You get the idea.

Folding Chair-"Flexible Love"

I thought my seats are reupholstered? on the fabric from fading in the laundry?

I reupholsterd my dining table chairs. I did it in red. Now I know I prolly have washed the first web .. anyway, the red is fading in the clothes as we sat in the chairs ... Anyone know of a solution easy to fix this?

Go to the fabric store. There is a spray. Try it.
